What to know about a massage oil scandal
More than 200 women have filed a lawsuit against a Florida massage oil company, accusing it of forcing them to massage their genitals.
Lawyers for the women filed their lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida on Tuesday, claiming that the company has engaged in unlawful conduct and has failed to provide adequate medical and counseling services.
The lawsuit names the company, “The Gentlemen’s Massage Company” and four employees.
It seeks $15 million in damages, court costs and a restraining order to prevent the company from offering massage therapy services.
It also accuses the company of “promoting a culture of sexual harassment” and “exceeding its scope of operations” by requiring female employees to massage men.
The suit says the massage therapy was conducted without a medical certificate.
It’s not the first time a company has faced legal action over massage therapy.
In August, a man accused the company that he had been treated with a massage in 2012.
He said the massage was conducted in violation of Florida law, and he sued the company for defamation.
